[ARCHIVED] Odessa Veteran with Humble Beginnings

Jesse Rodriguez

Jesse RodriguezThis week is “National Public Works Week,” a time meant to recognize the importance of our public infrastructure and those people that provide these vital services every day. Among them, is Jesse Rodriguez who’s been with the City of Odessa for 18 years now. He’s the Superintendent of Solid Waste.
“It can be stressful and challenging.”
Jesse has an IMPORTANT job, to say the least. He oversees our trash services and says sometimes that can be difficult due to the equipment and staffing shortages.
However, know he cares deeply about this community. He moved to Odessa when he was just a baby. He came from humble roots. His parents were hardworking. His dad worked in the Oilfield and his mom retired from ECISD after 30 years. She was a cafeteria worker.
He has had many twists and turns in his career. Jesse graduated from Odessa College in the ’90s. He served in the Army for four years. Then as a Correctional Officer for 9 years.
On a more personal note, the Odessa man is a big sports lover. His favorite NFL team is the Miami Dolphins. Jesse strongly believes in treating everyone fairly! He and his wife have been married for 35 years and his wife is also from Odessa as well. They have two kids.
Jesse, THANK YOU for taking on one of the hardest jobs in the City of Odessa!
