The Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) is a specially trained unit that resolves high-risk incidents through negotiations in an effort to reduce the possible risks associated with the use of force. The CNT maintains an immediate, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, operations response capability to conduct and manage on-scene negotiations during significant crisis events involving:
- Barricaded subjects
- Hostage incidents
- Suicidal individuals
- Any high risk situation
Members of the CNT complete a rigorous application process and must pass the Federal Bureau of Investigations Basic Hostage Negotiation Course. The members are managed under national guidelines set forth by the National Crisis Negotiation Association.
