The Criminal Investigation Division is the investigative arm of the Police Department. Investigators assigned to the Division are responsible for the follow-up investigation of felony and misdemeanor offenses reported to the Department. These investigations consist of
- Interviewing suspects, victims, and witnesses
- Analyzing information for validity, reliability, and accuracy
- Compiling a comprehensive and factual case file to be presented in court
The Division is assigned over 7700 cases for follow-up investigation annually. Successful follow-up investigations are then forwarded to the Ector County District Attorney's and County Attorney's offices, as well as the US Attorney's Office for prosecution.
Staff & Units
The Criminal Investigations Division is commanded by Lieutenant Sherrie Carruth and 4 sergeants who supervise 18 detectives. The Division is divided into 3 units:
- Crimes Against Persons Unit
- Crimes Against Property Unit
- Robbery/Homicide Unit
